My brother is always teasing me. He's two years younger and thinks he's always right. That's how this unusual bet came about. He's always loved gaming on his PlayStation. We've always bet money. In the old days it was a few cents and today a few dollars.

So one evening he came through the door. "Hey sis, why don't you go on The Bachelor. You just need a guy with cash to go with your designer clothes." I frowned. It wasn't quite that bad.

"Do you think a single millionaire is just lying around on the street?" He laughed out loud and said: "Not on the street, but maybe online. I bet you, with your looks, if you go on a site, you'll find a single millionaire. If not, I get $100."

I thought he was totally nuts. A single millionaire on a dating site. But fine. If I win, I get the $100 and the single millionaire. We shook on it!

Why is nothing happening?

No sooner said than done! I signed up on three different sites, and after two months still nothing was happening. The messages piled up, but my focus was on a man with money, not a paperboy, accountant or bank clerk.

I was already thinking about calling the whole thing off and giving my little brother the money. But I still had 4 weeks left!

I went through my ad one more time:

  • I had 3 good photos
  • The profile description fit
  • An appealing text

Could it have been the text?

Single millionaire

Wrong text, and sparks flew!

I showed my brother the text. He nearly died laughing. What do you want with that old relic? He works at an ad agency. In short, he rewrote everything. Much bolder and cheekier. I just thought, you can't come on that strong.

"Do you want to find the needle in the haystack, or keep going with the regular mainstream guys with no money? Actually I could rub my hands together, because the money's already as good as mine. But maybe one day I'll get something out of a single millionaire too." A statement like that was of course typical of my brother.

I could already see myself paying up, so I just let him go ahead, and then two weeks later it happened. There he was: Jack. A great guy, and we wrote back and forth all night. Then we met three days later, and step by step it turned into a relationship. My brother was pretty amazed. Because he liked him too. We dropped the money thing.

Jack is a hotelier. His father owns 25 hotels and 40 vacation homes across the country. It's unbelievable. Jack loved my profile, and I was simply the right one for him!
